Environmentalists are criticizing plans to begin a development plan to expand Tesla’s site in Grunheide near Berlin.
The Nature and Landscape Society of Brandenburg announced on Saturday that part of the area is a water conservation area prohibiting the conversion of the forest to another type of use.
The entire area is an outdoor area according to Section 35 of the Building Code. She added that the law regulates permitting projects only if the public interest is not harmed. This will happen when the project is implemented. Deforestation in the area has been successfully carried out since the 1990s.
According to the municipality, the American electric car manufacturer Tesla has submitted an application to start the development plan proceedings. More than 100 hectares are under discussion. Tesla wants to build a charging station, logistics areas and parking lots there.
According to the municipality, the new area is located in the immediate vicinity of the existing 300-hectare site. A new Plan B is required for this. The municipality’s main committee will discuss it on Thursday. If he makes a recommendation, the city council can make a decision on June 23.
In the initial expansion phase, Tesla wants to roll out about 500,000 vehicles a year and employ about 12,000 people. Company President Elon Musk The planned battery factory is still under construction. The state approved auto and battery plants in March.
