The city parish church – Mozart’s Mass excited Baden with great joy

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous Requiem Requiem captivated the audience on All Saints’ Day with the church choir and celebrated soloists of St. Stephen’s Parish Church. Special Feature: Baden is the third city after Salzburg and Vienna in which Mozart worked brilliantly. He visited the spa town as early as 1773.

The spirit of Mozart will not be forgotten on the 112th anniversary of the Baden Church Music Society. A special concert was organized on the occasion of All Saints’ Day. Concentration and memory: “All these people who have become victims of the epidemic and two senseless wars” and Heinz Eder, an important church choir member.

Four enchanted soloists

The world-famous soprano Cornelia Haubsch, who was born in Baden, took the audience on a journey. She has had long-standing collaborations with librettist Margit Fossey and pianist Edward Kotterwatz. She has lived out her love of music as a singing teacher and choir director at the Baden Music School since 2008. Mezzo-soprano Nina Maria Edelmann has managed to make a big name for herself with her “full, relaxed and beautiful voice” (quoted by Anna Mika, VN 2013). Edelman had great success in the role of Anne Frank in the opera “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

Bass baritone Wolfgang Bankel shone in Baden. He has been a member of the Vienna State Opera since 1993. He has performed roles such as Papageno, Leporello and Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro. Tenor Robert Bartnik, who was born in Hanover, also sang Mozart particularly well in the city’s parish church. Bandleader Andelko Igrec is happy with the great success he has achieved.

The church choir consists of about 50 members. At major festivals the choir is augmented by an orchestra. In its current form, it has a long history. Church music has been present at St. Stephen’s since before its foundation in 1911, and has been documented since 1415. The choir’s best calling card is Mozart’s suite Ave verum, which the then church choir premiered in 1791.
