The next version of Google’s smartphone operating system, Android 14, is imminent. The first beta is now live and here you can see what it entails.
Google will only present Android 14 at the Google I/O 2023 conference, which will take place on May 10th. But developers have been able to try out the next major Android update as part of Developer Preview since February. However, since these previews are usually still unstable, they are not suitable for casual users.
For this purpose, Google released the first beta version of Android 14 today, which is aimed not only at developers, but also at all other experimenters. At the same time, the schedule until release was announced, which looks similar to previous years: another beta version will be released every month by September, with the OS largely stable from June.
Android 14: What’s new
Since this is the first release, the scope of features in the final version may change slightly. However, Google has already incorporated some innovations This article together.
In addition to improvements in privacy, security, and performance, the focus is on UI updates. The upcoming OS should have various tweaks for tablets and foldable devices, a new back button and a revised Share Sheet. It is also practical that it becomes easier to use the different languages for each application.
As you can see, the range of functions is still limited, but as we get closer to September, more will be added.
Android 14 Beta 1 is available for testing by all Pixel 4a, Pixel 5, 5a, Pixel 6, 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and 7 Pro owners. However, it is advisable to install the beta version on a second device, as errors can still occur. There are precise instructions here to exist.
