Olympic candidates Jacob Schubert won the World Cup at home in Innsbruck in his major. The 30-year-old local champion, on Friday evening, triumphed on the stage of his victory in the 2018 World Cup in the first competition of the season, ahead of Italian Stefano Gisolvi. The third was the Swiss Sacha Lehmann. The frontrunner and world champion Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic slipped early in the final road and ended up in eighth place.
“I am of course very happy, I always seem to work at home. I got everything, it worked out perfectly,” said Schubert cheerfully ORFAn interview about the successful endurance test of the Olympic Games in a few weeks. He wants to go to the rocks on Saturday. Most recently in the United States, the 2019 World Cup runner-up took third place in his second strongest discipline. Like Nikolai Uznik, he is a semi-finalist at The Rock of Innsbruck.
Joanna Farber, Sandra Leitner and Francesca Strer are still in the running. In the lead, Eva-Maria Hummelmuller (22) and Julia Viser (24) missed the finals. The win went to Slovenian favorite Janja Garnbrit.
Jessica Biles is close to making a comeback
Austrian top seed Jessica Biles had to continue due to an injury. The former world champion tore a ligament in her left finger five weeks ago.
She can now train again and is optimistic that she will be able to compete again within a month of the Olympics. “I start again building, the load is increasing every day.
