Thomas Roth’s “Schächten” premiered at the world’s largest Jewish film festival in San Francisco.
Vienna / San Francisco (OTS) – “Schächten” is a first-class production of Wiener Cult and will premiere on July 30, 2022 at the 42nd San Francisco Jewish Film Festival. The popular festival focuses on observant films and filmmakers who want to tell and advance Jewish history.
In “Schächten,” Victor Dessauer, son of a Jewish businessman and Holocaust survivor, fails to bring the executioners of his Nazi parents to justice, and thus decides to take the law into his own hands. The top-tier “Schächten” team includes Jeff Willbusch, Paulus Manker, Miriam Vossinger, Christian Berkle, George Friedrich and Julia Stemberger.
“Schächten is a film about revenge and punishment and shows how in the young Republic of Austria many adherents of the Nazi regime effortlessly regained powerful and socially recognized jobs. A topic in our history that has hitherto hardly been dealt with,” says screenwriter and director Thomas Roth. The Holocaust always faces new challenges. The production of columns is of particular interest to us because it is necessary to counteract oblivion or even the re-emergence of fascist and nationalist tendencies. We are pleased and honored to be able to celebrate our premiere at this important festival in San Francisco”, add producers Katharina and Burkhard Ernst .
The film was funded by the Austrian Film Institute, the Vienna Film Fund, the ORF Film/Television Agreement, the film site Austria FISA, and the provinces of Lower Austria and Salzburg. “Schächten” has since been sold to North America. In Austria, the distribution rights are owned by Filmladen Film Distribution, and the theatrical release is scheduled for December 2.
“Schächten” is a cult film production (Producers: Katharina Ernst, Burkard Ernst, Thomas Roth and Konstantin Seitz, co-produced with Clemens Hallmann and co-producer Michael Wagner).
