The 82-year-old Frenchwoman, in the literature category, “humbly” accepted the award. She also feels great “gratitude” for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 65 years after the late French writer Albert Camus.
The author received such works as “The Stranger” in 1957. “Finding myself here, after 65 years, leaves me with a deep sense of amazement,” Erno told 2,000 guests at the Stockholm City Hall.
The author (“The Other Girl,” “The Years,” and “The Event”) said the award for her work holds her to “higher standards in the search for reality and truth.”
