Washington – FC Bayern Munich begin the second leg of their trip to America. On Friday afternoon (local time), coach Julian Nagelsmann’s stellar team travels from the capital Washington to Green Bay for the second and final game of the preseason.
English champions Manchester City from former Munich coach Pep Guardiola will demand more from Bayern on German night on July 24 (1:00 am / CEST) than DC United’s 6-2 win in Washington.
New signing Sadio Mane will no longer be there, returning to the United States after competing for African Footballer of the Year in Morocco. The 30-year-old Senegalese scored a brace against his former Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah (Egypt) and his national team-mate Edouard Mendy (Chelsea) in Rabat on Thursday.
“We are very happy with Sadio Mane’s award. of
“In its long history, FC Bayern has never had an African Footballer of the Year in its ranks,” said CEO Oliver Kahn. “This is a special honor for our club.”
“Winning is important”
Even without Mane, who won the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Munich team-mate Bauna Sarr in February, Munich will be looking to get in the mood to open the tournament with a win over City a week later.
“It’s important to have the will to win,” Nagelsmann said of one goal of the product. He announced a different approach to the city tournament after changing the entire squad at half-time in the Test in Washington and distributing more playing time. “Maybe some of the results will be a little more clear,” said Nagelsmann, who will be 35 on game day. “But that won’t be the end result for the Super Cup.”
On July 30, the German champions from Munich will take on cup winners RB Leipzig in a Supercup clash. Six days later, Bayern kicked off the new Bundesliga season at Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt.
