With Philipp Lenhart out due to injury, Rapid defender Leopold Kerfeld will make his international debut on Saturday against Slovakia (as of 6pm on the live stream).
This was announced by ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick on Friday evening at the recent press conference in Bratislava.
The German pointed out that in addition to the injured captains David Alaba and Lenhart, Gernot Trauner, who was absent due to hip problems, did not have a strong third center back. “If there are not three potential players in the starting lineup, we will not be spoiled for choice anymore,” Rangnick said.
Crosfield and Danso at centre-back
Leopold Kerfeld will make his debut against the Slovaks alongside Kevin Danso at centre-back.
Against Turkey, Maximilian Wobber is also an option to move from outside to centre-back as a left player. Rangnick revealed that at least for the Turkey match, Lenhart was scheduled to be in the starting lineup after suffering thigh problems.
He would like to use it for at least half an hour against Slovakia. Now Lower Austria is not there at all. Rangnick: “That's the only thing that's annoying.”
