In the United States, several thousand flights were canceled on Saturday due to a winter storm. The northeastern United States was particularly hard hit, with strong winds and heavy snowfall expected. A state of emergency was declared in New York and New Jersey, while Boston Mayor Michael Wu declared a state of emergency due to the snowfall.
New York Mayor Eric Adams indicated in a Twitter message that 30 centimeters of fresh snow is expected. However, Mother Nature is known to “do whatever she wants.”
According to the FlightAware website, 3,400 flights were canceled for Saturday. There were already 1,450 cancellations on Friday. The National Weather Service has warned that it will be “almost impossible” to travel at times. Extremely low temperatures were forecast Sunday night.
New York Gov. Cathy Hochhol advised citizens to stay home over the weekend. Just two weeks ago, a severe blizzard caused massive disruptions to power and flights in the eastern United States.
