But the former admiral is also enough as a diplomat to downplay the importance of the American ultimatum that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sent to Israel in the form of a letter. Within one month, Israel must significantly increase aid access to the Gaza Strip – especially to the north. Otherwise, the Protecting Power would have to reconsider military aid to its closest allies in the Middle East, it noted in the letter dated October 13. The deadline comes after the US elections, at a time when the country is going through a transition. Then President Joe Biden will have already turned into a “lame duck,” as they say in American jargon.
