After defending champions Finland, the United States is in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championships in Riga. The Americans beat Germany 2-0 on Monday to celebrate their fifth consecutive victory in Group B. In Group A, no team received a ticket to the knockout round. The Sen Republic eliminated the opening game 2-1 after a shootout against Denmark.
Despite the defeat Germany still holds the quarterbacks in their hands. At 0: 2 against the United States, the Germans were overweight, with a shot ratio of 33:15. Nevertheless, Los Angeles Kings goalkeeper Calvin Peterson came to his second shutout of the match. If the Germans win against host Latvia after 60 minutes on Tuesday evening, they are in the knockout round. The same goes for Balts.
