US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has expressed concern over growing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Blinken said he shared his South Korean counterpart Park Jin’s “great concerns” during a visit to the South Korean capital, Seoul, today.
The two foreign ministers said they discussed implementing an expanded deterrence strategy to counter threats from North Korea and deepening strategic cooperation with Japan.
Moscow and Pyongyang deny arms deals
“Our three countries are already taking steps to improve our joint response through real-time sharing of DPRK missile warning data, trilateral security exercises and efforts to counter the DPRK’s malicious cyber activities,” Blinken and Park said. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the official name of North Korea.
The US, South Korea and Japan have already criticized North Korea for supplying Russia with weapons and military equipment. All three states said cargo traffic from largely isolated North Korea proved this was happening. On the other hand, North Korea and Russia have denied any arms deal.
