The USA won the medal table in the final game

The United States is the most successful country in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Down to the last second in the basketball final, the U.S. women held on for a narrow 67:66 win over France. The basketball team won 40 gold medals for the U.S. in Paris — and moved the U.S. past China to the top spot.

4th consecutive US No. 1

China also finished the Games with 40 gold medals. A large number of silver medals tipped the balance in favor of the United States. This is the fourth year in a row that the United States has topped the list. Most recently they had to concede defeat to the hosts from China in Beijing. At the Games in Tokyo, Team USA overtook China only on the last day.

Because the medal table in the United States is ranked by total medals, the American public pays little attention to this head-to-head race. The United States ranks first with 126 medals, followed by the United States with 91 medals.
