(Jeep Lint) – Asus has teamed up with Blizzard Entertainment to launch a special edition ROG Phone 6, and it comes loaded with Diablo the Immortal stuff. So if you’re a fan of the game or just want to see something different than usual, read on (or watch the video below).
Not only is the phone different than usual, Asus has gone to great lengths with the outer packaging. It’s huge and looks like the Horadric Cube in the game, which transforms things you put into it.
There are also many additional items in the box. There is a box that looks like an old leather scroll with a map printed on the outside. This is something you don’t get with regular cell phones.
It also has a job. Inside – once – exposed – charging accessories. That is, the 65-watt wired charger with a Type-C connector, which can recharge the phone’s 6,000 mAh battery in about 42 minutes. Unfortunately, it’s not tethered, like the box and phone, and there’s no USB-C to USB-C charging cable with a nylon strap that clips into the other pocket.
The card also hides another function. Since elements of the card are only visible under UV light, Asus has included a small UV flashlight with the card that, when turned on (after the battery is inserted), highlights marks hidden in the card that would not be seen clearly without it. They glow red under the light.
The phone itself comes in another game-themed packaging. It was designed to look like the World Stone from the game. The phone sits on the front, with a neat little box on the back that, when opened, reveals a golden Diablo-style SIM ejector.
It also houses the ROG Phone’s protective case, which, like almost everything else, is themed. Like the map, this item contains hidden elements that glow red under UV light.
For the phone, the Diablo theme starts as soon as you open it up and launch it. The back of the phone features the same graphics as the outer packaging, and even the initial setup screen has a terrifying animated demon figure.
Most of the exterior details are on the back of the phone, showcasing the aforementioned motif, as well as a finish called “Hellfire red” which – when lined up properly with the light – creates a flickering flame effect.
Of course, there are also RGB elements on the mobile phone. Diablo Immortal and ROG logos light up on the back of the phone. As is a smaller Diablo Immortal logo on the side.
There are more signs on the camera bump as well as the “eternity awaits” fingerprint. It has three cameras, a 50MP primary camera, a 13MP macro camera and a 5MP macro camera.
Other than that, it’s the same as any ROG Phone 6. It has a red highlighted SIM tray on the edge and two USB-C ports: one on the bottom edge and one on the side for connecting the optional AeroActive-Cooler. Being a gaming phone, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and two really powerful speakers – one on each side of the 6.8-inch AMOLED display.
It’s a stunning display with up to a 165Hz refresh rate for ultra-fast gaming graphics, peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, support for HDR10+ content and a billion colours.
It’s a panel similar to that of the ROG Phone 6 and 6D, and in our tests it proved great for media viewing and gaming.
Other details include the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor for fast, smooth, and efficient performance. It can now be ordered directly from Asus in limited quantities – for a fee £1,099 in the UK or $1,299 in the US.
