A “technical problem with an external provider’s software” ensured that the round of 16 matches had to be tied twice.
Monday’s Champions League Round of 16 draw was not for the faint of heart. Only at the second attempt, duels between the major European teams were drawn correctly. The first attempt at 12 noon was deemed void after performing an “illicit” pairing. The reason given by UEFA was a “technical issue with an external provider programme”. At 3 p.m. the second attempt took place, and then it went smoothly.
