After seven football titles, the Cup is back to sailing.
Lara Vadlau and Lukas Maher are Austria's team for 2024. After seven successive successes in football, the Cup is back to sailing. The duo won Olympic gold in the 470 class outside of Marseille in August. She won the NIKI election held by Sports Media Austria (SMA) with 1,093 points, well ahead of the ÖFB men's team (521) and Austrian football champions Sturm Graz (484).
This was the second trophy for Vadlao who also won the team award with Jolanta Ogar in 2014. In 2016, third place winners in Rio were honored by Tomas Zajac/Tanja Frank (NACRA 17). Since 2014, the title of Team of the Year has always gone to either football or sailing.
The Lotteries-Sporthilfe ceremony with prize distribution took place on Thursday evening in the Wiener Stadthalle. In addition to awards in the major categories of Team, Athlete of the Year and Paralympic Athletics Honors, awards were given in several other special categories. Also present was soccer star David Alaba, who was supposed to present tennis pro Dominic Thiem with a special award shortly before the end of his career. (Abba)
