Despite a goal from former Bundesliga professional Erik Thomi, Sporting Kansas City lost in the US Open Cup final. Together with other Germans Robert Wolder and Tim Leibold, Thomey lost the final of the oldest American football tournament against Los Angeles FC 1:3 (0:0, 1:1) after extra time.
Thomi (60th) equalized for Kansas City after Olivier Giroud (53rd) was left behind. Omar Campos (102') and Kei Kamara (109') led LA to victory in extra time. Domi, who played for Fortuna Düsseldorf and VfB Stuttgart in Germany, came on as a substitute in the 112th minute when the score was 1:3.
Woloder, trained by 1. FC Köln, played in central defence, while ex-Hamburg man Leipoldt came on as a substitute in the closing stages of regular time. In the league, the three Germans and Kansas City are unlikely to make the playoffs until just before the end of the regular season.
