Union Berlin maintained its leadership in the German League. At VfB Stuttgart, the people of Berlin needed little to make the maximum return.
At the end of a difficult 90 minutes, Paul Jekyll’s header (76) ensured Union Berlin won 1-0 (0-0) over its guest Stuttgart. “Al-Hadid” salute with 20 points after the ninth round of the German League from first place. With only five points, Stuttgart is the only team in the league that has not achieved a win and remains penultimate.
Rönnow with a strong backlash against Zagadou
But in front of their home crowd, the Swabians didn’t play like the relegation favorites on Sunday (October 9, 2022), especially in the first half. Time and time again, VfB quickly looked for a way to move forward without losing sight of the protection against Unioner’s counterattack. However, Stuttgart had the best chance in the early stages after a steady piece.
After an outside free kick, Dan Axel Zagado headed in from close range, but Al Ittihad goalkeeper Frederick Rono prevented the difference with a strong reaction (14). The visitors did not do much for the match until the end of the first half, and Stuttgart entered the first half with more chances after a strong free kick from Eto’o (25) and Gerassi’s header (34).
Union with a lot of control
In the second round, both teams played with greater caution. Berlin dominated the match through extended periods of possession, but did not gain any decisive advantage. In Stuttgart, the strength and therefore the momentum from the first 45 minutes gradually diminished.
Finally, one scene was enough for the guests to be uprooted to win. Jaeckel hit a corner kick from Nico Gisselmann in perfect timing and headed the ball over the inner post into the goal. Although Stuttgart defended itself shortly after falling behind, Konstantinos Mavropanos (79) hit the post and wanted to equalize, but that was no longer enough to get a point.
Instead, Serho Gerassi got a yellow and red card for two fouls within five minutes (83) and VfB finished the match by a wide margin.
Al-Ittihad is initially required in the European League
In the fourth round of the Europa League group stage, Union Berlin welcomes the Swedish representative from Malmö (Thursday 13 October 2022, 9pm). On the tenth day of the Bundesliga matches, Koepniks will play at home against Borussia Dortmund to gain important points in the fight for the first places (Sunday, 5:30 pm). Stuttgart has another home game and hosts Bochum at the bottom of the table in a basement duel on Saturday.
