Spurs embarrassed themselves to the bone in their first appearance in the Conference League. Tottenham lost in the first leg of the group stage to the current eleventh table of the Portuguese League, Pacos de Ferreira, with a score of 0: 1 (0: 0).
New Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who confirmed before the match that he wanted to take the Conference League seriously, changed his first team. After winning 1-0 against Manchester City at the start of the season to eleven positions and brought in a few well-known players such as Ben Davies, Giovanni Lo Celso, Harry Winks or Ryan Sessegnon.
The base eleven were completed by young, inexperienced players. Brian Gill, who came from Sevilla in the summer for 25 million euros, also made his debut with Tottenham.
The former fifth from Portugal, who was relegated to the second division in 2018, was not too impressed with BLF from London and shortly before the break, Lucas Silva deserved the lead (45). Ferreira then defended his lead over 90 minutes. Tottenham’s attack failed to get a shot on target throughout the entire season.
The return match between Tottenham and Ferreira will increase next Thursday. Before that, Tottenham will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderer on Sunday – the former club of coach Espirito Santo.
