Christoph Schlagbauer and Eva Berger won the first edition of the Iron Man 70.3 Graz.
Schlagbauer is the first athlete to cross the finish line in 3:59:55, closely followed by compatriot Florian Kandoch. Eva Berger became the best woman of the day at 4:23:38 hours.
A total of 1,200 athletes took part in the 1.9-kilometre swim in Schwarzelsee, and the 90- and 21.1-kilometer cycling on this hot summer day in Graz.
“The Iron Man is not only a central event in the year of sport in Graz, but is also a major economic factor. We can welcome several thousand athletes, their families and their fans to Graz. This is an important impetus for hotels and restaurants. Graz is also becoming highly visible at the international level once again ‘ says Mayor Mag. Siegfried Nigel.
Sweden’s Patrick Nelson won the European Ironman Championship in Frankfurt on Sunday, and needs 7:59:21 hours for the original distance (3.8/185/42.2) in the heat. Maximilian Hammerl is the thirteenth (8:28:43).
