Tried: Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO with dual zoom

Tried: Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO with dual zoom

Focal lengths of 60mm, 100mm and 50mm are already available in dual zoom, and there is also a 2.5-5x Ultra Macro 25mm from Laowa (each with an f/2.8 aperture). The new 2.8 / 90mm 2x Ultra Macro APO Lens is a purely manual lens made of metal and of high quality. This means that not only does the focus have to be done manually, but also that there is no data exchange with the camera and the Exif data does not contain any information about the aperture used. Focusing is done via a wide ring with a distance scale. On the other hand, the aperture ring is very narrow. The zoom limit is 20.5 cm, allowing magnification by a factor of 2: 1.

Compact and lightweight design

The design of the mirrorless cameras with a short flange distance allows for a relatively compact (74 x 120 mm) and lightweight (619 g) design with internal focusing. Achromatic design reduces chromatic aberration. On our short hands-on examination, the lens convinces with very good clarity even with the aperture open and at the edge of the image.

The Laowa 90mm, 2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO will be available from the end of June priced at around €660 for Canon RF, Nikon Z and L cameras (Leica, Panasonic, Sigma) and Sony E mounts. A lens cap is included in the scope of delivery.
