He presses
Trump has not yet provided the estimated bail amount in the fraud case. If this does not happen by Monday, his assets will be confiscated.
NEW YORK – Donald Trump's core brand includes the image of an ultra-rich businessman. But although the American business magazine Forbes currently estimates his wealth at about 2.6 billion US dollars, the Republican candidate in the presidential elections currently finds himself in financial trouble.
According to numerous media reports, Trump is currently having problems paying the bail amount of more than $450 million, including interest, to a New York court. US Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron sentenced the former US president last February, after he considered it proven that Trump misrepresented his financial circumstances in order to obtain better loan terms. New York Attorney General Letitia James had previously filed a lawsuit against Trump. As a result, Trump has repeatedly criticized James publicly.
The payment deadline for Trump is set for tomorrow, March 25. If he does not post the total bail of $464 million by then, he will face confiscation of his assets. Even personal bankruptcy seems possible.
$464 Million Bail – Can Trump Pay It or Not?
Trump's lawyers said last Monday (March 11, 2024) that they were unable to secure bail in the fraud case filed by James. They had previously tried to find a company to send Trump the amount of money set in court as bail while they appealed the ruling.
However, they failed despite negotiations with about 30 insurance companies, the German news agency DPA reported among others. “Very few bail insurance companies would consider a bond of this size,” Trump's lawyers said.
Trump caused an uproar on Friday with a post on the social media platform Truth Social. There he claimed to have “nearly $500 million in cash” allowing him to post bail. The court has not yet responded to Trump's statements.
Trump's properties are threatened with confiscation if he does not provide the bail requested by the court
It remains to be seen whether Donald Trump will post the $1 million bail he requested with the court by tomorrow. Which of his assets could be threatened with confiscation if the former US president does not deposit the $464 million with the court?
American news portal Newsweek I've seen a document from the attorney general's office listing properties owned by Trump that the court says have “fraudulent” and “misleading” values and could be seized as part of judicial sequestration: In addition to Trump Tower in Manhattan, among others, Trump's building on Wall Street could be affected With possible confiscation.
If the payment deadline is missed, these Trump properties could be affected by seizure
There are also a number of other properties and lands on the list. This includes a number of golf clubs on the east and west coasts of the United States, and two Trump golf clubs in Scotland. Trump recently harshly criticized fraud measures again
In a post on a social media platform Social truth Trump clearly criticized the actions taken against him on Friday: “No trial, no jury, no crime, no victim, just a corrupt judge and a corrupt prosecutor who hates Trump and takes her orders directly from the White House. “Election interference is at an unprecedented level,” Trump wrote.
This court case is just one of many that Trump is currently dealing with: key hearings in four other criminal cases have not yet begun, and civil proceedings are still ongoing. In January, for example, a New York court ordered Trump to pay more than $80 million in damages to author E. Jane Carroll for defamation. The Republican appealed the ruling, but was forced to submit a bail amount of more than $90 million to the court.
