Trump wants to be nominated “the old-fashioned way.”

Nikki Haley, Trump's latest rival, still does not want to withdraw from the race early.

A draft submitted to the Republican National Committee on Thursday (local time) to declare Donald Trump the party's presidential nominee was withdrawn at an early stage, just a few hours later after objections from Trump himself. The former president's ally, David Bossie, initially circulated the draft to RNC committee members.

The Republican National Committee, which oversees GOP elections, could have voted next week at an already scheduled meeting to directly send Trump as the party's nominee in the race for the nation's highest office. But Trump himself objected and announced on his own social networking platform, “Truth Social,” that he wanted to be nominated the old-fashioned way at the ballot box. Bossie withdrew the draft shortly after, according to a person familiar with the matter. He has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Nikki Haley is under increasing pressure

Nikki Haley, Donald Trump's only remaining competitor, is currently under increasing pressure to withdraw from the race for the Republican nomination early. Because of the incident surrounding the David Bossie project, some members of the Republican National Committee complained that it was rude and unfair to Haley to prematurely declare Trump the nominee after only two primaries. “Who cares what the RNC says? We are letting millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party's nominee, not a group of Washington insiders,” Haley's campaign said in a statement. She continues to refuse to withdraw from the race early despite Defeated in New Hampshire on Tuesday. (APA)
