By plucking key elements from famous motorsport icons of the past, specifically the stunning FIA GT1 class monsters, Tuthill’s relentless pursuit of mechanical excellence has led to the creation of his latest masterpiece: the GT ONE.
In 1994, the FIA introduced the GT1 class at Le Mans, ushering in one of the most iconic periods in motorsport history. Fifteen of the world’s leading manufacturers threw their fire-breathing four-wheeled hats onto the track, but there was one model that most fans remember in particular to this day. Building a race version is one thing, but building the road models required for homologation in time is a particular challenge. Tuthill took on the GT ONE now on display at The Quail – a reminder of such a special homologation from the mid-1990s – with heart and passion.
The plan is to build just 22 examples of the GT ONE, and since each vehicle takes 3,500 hours of meticulous work, which is individually determined according to the customer’s requirements, the result is a true work of automotive art. German graduate designer Florian Flatau is responsible for the elegant and powerful design. A graduate of the Transportation Design course at the University of Pforzheim, he has worked in advanced design for major OEMs such as Audi, Nissan and BMW since 2008. Since 2023, he has been head of his own design studio Flatau Design Inc. in Los Angeles.
Like the historic model, the GT ONE is based on a carbon fibre body and is powered by a four-litre straight-six engine, either as a naturally aspirated unit or in a turbocharged version, depending on your preference. The naturally aspirated engine, derived from the high-revving Tuthill 911K, develops 500 hp, while the forced-air unit easily puts more than 600 hp on the asphalt!
Like the engines, Tuthill also offers its customers the choice of two transmissions: a 7-speed dual-clutch, as also fitted to the car currently on display at The Quail, or a manual gearbox for a particularly intense driving experience. Once the engine and transmission are resolved, the double wishbone front and rear suspension as well as carbon ceramic brakes are installed, contributing to the GT ONE’s weight saving of 1,200kg.
As you would expect from one of the world’s best specialists in their field, Tuthill has brought his expertise to the GT ONE, incorporating the latest technologies and exceptional materials throughout the car. The aerodynamic efficiency of the underbody and body has been optimised through CFD analysis. An FIA-approved rollover protection system and full carbon doors with integrated side impact protection increase passive occupant safety. For those looking to squeeze even more performance out of this beast, Tuthill has raised the idea of an optional track-focused aero package.
Tuthill presented his car to an enthusiastic crowd at Monterey Car Week, once again pushing the boundaries of automotive excellence. By combining decades of real-world driving experience with innovative technology, the British specialists have created a truly special celebration of speed!
