A rendering error is said to have caused photos, links and videos to suddenly disappear from old tweets. Media content is not lost, as promised by X (formerly Twitter).
After photos, videos, and links disappeared from many of the tweets posted before 2014, the platform that Elon Musk bought has now made it clear: It was just a misplay. The service, which was renamed X by Twitter, confirmed Monday (local time), “no photos or data were lost.” The error has since been corrected. In the coming days, all media content should be visible again.
X users noticed the bug over the weekend. Without an explanation from either X or Musk, concerns quickly spread that the photos and videos could be a victim of server moves or austerity measures. Among the photos temporarily missing is the iconic Bradley Cooper photo from the 2014 Academy Awards with several Hollywood stars appearing in the photo.
After acquiring Twitter for about $44 billion last fall, Musk laid off more than half of the staff, including software developers. There have been many technical problems in the past few months.
