The 285-meter-tall skyscraper was recently completed – according to plans by the famous architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).
The internationally active architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) recently completed the last skyscraper in a major development in New York City's Midtown Manhattan: the Two Manhattan West office tower developed by Brookfield Properties is approximately 650,321 square metres.2. The 58-story building complex is located on a particularly challenging site — above a railway line — and is supported by “a central core of which only half can touch solid ground,” according to a recent statement from the architecture firm.
Located west of the iconic Penn Station, Two Manhattan West joins the skyscrapers that reach a height of about 285 metres. While One Manhattan West is 303 meters high and is therefore considered a “high-rise”, Two Manhattan West misses the technical definition by about 15 meters (49 feet). Both towers are located along Ninth Avenue, while the other four towers are located behind them, surrounding a central plaza.
“With high-performance envelopes and rounded corners, they express soft, harmonious simplicity to form a dynamic presence in the urban skyline.” Each one features rounded corners and “subtly sloping” profiles. (editor)
