With the Olympic Stadium, Berlin will host the 2024 European Football Championship final in Germany. The UEFA Executive Committee awarded the opening match to Munich (Allianz Arena) at a meeting held on Tuesday in Vienna.
The tournament will take place between June 14 and July 14. The other places are Hamburg and Leipzig (north/northeast), Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne (west) as well as Frankfurt and Stuttgart (south).
Matches will be held in groups in two different regions just to reduce travel pressures for players and fans. “It is an important sign that the game plan is shaped for the first time also by the idea of sustainability,” said German Football Association president Bernd Neuendorf.
The quarter-final matches will take place in Hamburg and Stuttgart (5 July each) as well as in Berlin and Düsseldorf (6 July each). The finalists will be determined on July 9 in Munich and July 10 in Dortmund (July 10).
The final draw is scheduled for December 2023 at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and the international media center will be in Leipzig. The qualifiers will be drawn next October in Frankfurt.
At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the start contract was awarded at the newly constructed Munich Arena, and the final was played at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
On Tuesday, it was also decided that the final of the 2023 European League would be held on June 7 at the Eden Arena in Prague. The 47th Ordinary European Union Conference will be held in Lisbon on 5 April 2023.
