FRANKFURT – Wednesday, September 15, 2021, 2:25 pm
Oliver Glasner is not allowed to sit on the training bench at Eintracht Frankfurt in the opening match of the Europa League against Fenerbahce on Thursday.
After arriving on the field, Glasner, who has been banned from playing, said at Wednesday’s press conference that he would “retire to a box.” “I’m really excited to see how I feel about it. I’ve never experienced the situation and hope to never go back to it. It’s a new experience for me too.”
“I can see myself there, even if I can’t sit on the bench,” the former LASK coach explains. The 47-year-old was suspended for a foul at his former club Wolfsburg when he and the team returned too late after halftime in three European Cup matches.
Assistant coaches Michael Engerschmid and Ronald Bronmeier are now in charge of the club’s match against the Turks. He stresses that Glasner has “complete confidence” in the duo. “The players are the most important heroes. They have to judge that and they will judge it.”
