The Ukrainian army announced that it had regained the town of Andreyivka near the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, which is controlled by Russian forces. The General Staff said in its morning report today that during the counterattacks, Ukrainian soldiers took control of the village located in the Donetsk region.
Their units inflicted heavy losses on the enemy, both in terms of soldiers and military equipment. In addition, Ukrainian forces fortified their own positions. The information cannot currently be independently verified.
Andriivka is located south of Bakhmut. The devastated city is now the scene of one of the fiercest battles since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. The Ukrainian General Staff reported partial success in Klyshchevka, another village south of Bakhmut.
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malgar initially announced yesterday that Andreyivka had come under the control of its armed forces. She later explained that this was not true because the fighting was still taking place around the village.
