It was hard work for 1. FC Union Berlin, which was not crowned with success. There was only one draw against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga for the Köpenickers.
Union Berlin is dropping feathers in the battle for the Champions League places. The team coached by Urs Fischer did not lead 1-1 (1-0) against Bochum in a difficult and often difficult match. This leaves Berlin third in the table, just one point behind RB Leipzig.
For Bochum, this point win means a glimmer of hope in the fight for relegation. Coach Thomas Leach’s team is currently in 15th place with 27 points, Josip Juranović (45′ + 3′) for Union and Kevin Stoger (55′) for Bochum scored both goals.
Lightning onset of union
Berlin players tried to score an early goal with a lightning start in the first five minutes. However, Bochum’s defense withstood the intensified efforts of the Union. As a result, the game noticeably calmed down, and VfL managed to launch its own attacks, softening attacks from time to time, but without becoming dangerous.
The game rippled quietly for a long time. Coach Fisher’s team had more possession, but could find no playful way to put the guests under real pressure.
Only an unfortunate cross from Jerome Roussillon after 37 minutes on the Bochum crossbar caused minimal excitement on the field at Alte Försterei. But then came Josip Juranović’s moment: the Croatian (45′ + 3′) hit an unsustainable 22-meter free kick into the corner of the goal in extra time to give the Berlin players a 1-0 lead.
Bochum transformed
At the beginning of the second half, Bochum suddenly lost its reserves and pressed the Berlin players from the very beginning. Result: Argentine soccer players awarded a penalty after Issa Al-Aidouni came up late in front of Ivan Orts and kicked a Bochum player. Kevin Stoeger (55) converted safely to 1:1.
Al Ittihad defender Paul Jekyll was seen after just six minutes Yellow and red after repeated foul play. Bochum tried to keep the pressure and score the second goal. However, Al-Ittihad goalkeeper Frederic Rono (81) prevented Bushmer’s second goal with a wonderful shot against Philip Hoffman’s header. On the other hand, Behrens (85) had a great chance on a counter-attack, as his header from five meters missed the VfL target.
The union shall conclude against him Mönchengladbach
Union Berlin plays away against Mönchengladbach at the end of the twenty-ninth round (Sunday 23 April 2023 at 7.30 pm). Bochum welcomes Wolfsburg the day before (3:30pm).
