After a brutal police operation in a small town in the US state of Arkansas, investigations have been launched against three officers. State police said they have launched an investigation into the use of force in the arrest of a 27-year-old man last night (local time). According to official reports, three officers have been temporarily relieved of duty.
Video footage of the scene, captured from a car parked nearby, was earlier posted on social media. The video shows three police officers forcefully grabbing a man who was lying on the ground and beating him. One of the officers punched the man’s head several times with his fist, grabbing his head and slamming him to the ground, while another kicked the man’s body several times with his knee.
Mayor “Shock”
According to police, the arrest took place in front of a store in the small town of Mulberry, Arkansas. After the incident, the 27-year-old man was first taken to the hospital for examination and treatment and was later arrested. Among other things, he was charged with trespassing, assault and resisting arrest. The 27-year-old is accused of previously threatening a nearby gas station worker, CNN reported.
The small town’s mayor, Gary Baxter, wrote in a statement that the video shocked him. The outcome of an initiated investigation is taken very seriously. Such an incident should not happen again. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, wrote on Twitter that he had spoken to state police about the incident.
