US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed concern to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over reports of Israeli forces firing on UN peacekeeping positions in Lebanon. In the conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Austin called for the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, and the safety and security of the Lebanese Armed Forces, the US Department of Defense said.

According to the Hezbollah group, a third UN soldier has now been wounded. This happened when Hezbollah fought Israeli troops who wanted to enter the village of Ramiya in southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, mutual shelling continued. About 40 projectiles were fired from Lebanon, the Israeli military announced on its Telegram channel Saturday evening. Some were intercepted and the rest fell in open areas. The information could not be independently verified.

The Israeli military has previously closed areas around some cities in northern Israel to the public following a security assessment. Military exclusion zones along the border with Lebanon now include Zerait, Shomara, Shtula, Natua and Eben Menachem, a military statement said.

According to official figures, 2,255 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict with Israel began about a year ago. This was reported by the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
