The scene occurred in the break between the third and fourth sets: Chris O’Connell had just left for the toilet after winning the set when Daniil Medvedev called for medical assistance.
After an aide visited the Russian man for the first time and shortly thereafter started laughing, a colleague came over and asked Medvedev in a very audible voice if he was experiencing symptoms.
He replied, “Yes, I lost the sentence… Give me what you gave.”
It appears that the background to the funny event was that O’Connell was also treated by the medical team present after the second sentence was finished.
O’Connell gets the cure – and turns it on
Exactly what was missing from O’Connell could not be heard over the microphones. However, the 29-year-old kept touching his chest while explaining and it seemed like he was having trouble breathing. Shortly thereafter, the doctor pulled an asthma spray from her pocket, and O’Connell took it two long times.
In the next sentence, he suddenly turned up the heat. “I don’t know why, but at some point he decided to play better,” Medvedev joked in an on-field interview.
Medvedev keeps his cool
However, after a short conversation, during which both Medvedev and the medical staff laughed, the woman and the man left without treating Medvedev in any way.
In the third round, he now meets the third-placed player in the world rankings with Argentine Sebastian Paez.
