According to the US, Russian soldiers are openly executed by the Russian military if they disobey orders. “We have information that the Russian military has actually executed soldiers who refused to follow orders,” National Security Council communications director John Kirby told reporters on Thursday (local time). There was no immediate comment from Moscow.
Russian commanders threatened to kill entire units if they tried to retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire, Kirby said. Representatives of the Kremlin, the Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian Embassy in the United States did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
The US ambassador to Ukraine said that training for Ukrainian pilots in the US has begun on F-16 fighter jets. “Ukrainian pilots are now training on F-16 jets with the Arizona Air National Guard,” Ambassador Bridget Brink wrote on X, previously Twitter. It is an essential part of building up Ukrainian air defense.
“The United States is proud to work with our European partners to support Ukraine against Russia’s brutal aggression,” Brink continued. The U.S. approved sending F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands and Denmark to Ukraine in August after pilot training was completed.
