It’s the most controversial issue in America: abortion rights, which the Supreme Court struck down in June. During the demonstration against the decision, the police arrested several members of parliament, including several prominent democrats.
17 US lawmakers have been arrested during a pro-abortion protest outside the Supreme Court in Washington. Politicians and other demonstrators refused to clear the road between the Supreme Court and the Capitol, police said on Twitter. MP Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, spoke of the “act of defiance”.
“I will do everything I can to warn against the attack on our reproductive rights,” the well-known party added in a Twitter post. Among those arrested was Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a leftist Democrat. Posted on his Twitter account Video It shows her being escorted by a policeman. A total of 35 people were arrested, police said.
In June, the Supreme Court struck down the fundamental right to an abortion in the United States. Since then, many conservative-governed states have introduced strict abortion restrictions or outright bans. Democrats and President Joe Biden have made abortion rights a key campaign issue ahead of November’s midterm elections.
