Six weeks after the US-Russia summit in Geneva, a new round of disarmament talks between nuclear powers begins in Switzerland on Wednesday (today). It’s about issues of “strategic stability,” as US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed at their June 16 summit.
A possible one-day meeting is seen as an important signal for global security. Topics will be brought up for future negotiations. The foundation is the only major arms control agreement left between the United States and Russia: the New Beginning Treaty on Nuclear Disarmament.
