Former US First Lady Rosalyn Carter has died at the age of 96. Her husband Jimmy described her as an “equal partner” – already politically active during her tenure.

A Democratic politician from the southern US state of Georgia, he served as President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, when he was succeeded by Republican Ronald Reagan. He is the oldest living former President of the United States. In September, he surprised everyone with a public appearance at a peanut parade in his hometown of Plains.
