USA Wins Gold in Figure Skating – Celebrations in Paris!

Exactly two-and-a-half years to the day since the game was decided in the figure skating team competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics, the U.S. team won gold medals in Paris. The ceremony took place at the Champions Park at the foot of the Eiffel Tower with huge fanfare from many American fans. The Japanese team won silver medals.

“It's incredible, it was more than I dreamed,” said American figure skater Vincent Zhao after the ceremony: “Now things have come full circle” is the background to the late award figure skater Kamila Valieva was subsequently banned for doping.

Valieva led the Russian team to gold in 2022, but due to her positive results during the Games, the award ceremony never took place. In July, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected an appeal by the National Olympic Committee ROC, the Russian Figure Skating Federation and the Russian Winter Games Figure Skating Committee.

A bronze medal was not awarded at the ceremony, but it is not yet clear who will receive it. According to the World Ice Skating Association ISU's rating, Russia was not disqualified, but fell back to third place after Valieva's rating was removed.

The fourth-placed team from Canada in Beijing is still suing, and proceedings are still ongoing. It is not known when the decision will be made.
