During the celebration of the next premiere at the Hilton, Veronica Kaup-Hassler, a member of the Vienna City Council for Culture, presented Romeo Castellucci the “Golden Medal of Merit to the State of Vienna”.
Kaup-Hassler noted in her speech that Castellucci’s work has been an aesthetic component of the Wiener Festwochen for over twenty years, noting their close artistic collaboration and its importance in the cultural life of Vienna. Through his theatrical work, Castellucci opened up new areas of theatrical experience. It nonetheless honors “the further radical development of theater that raises the most important questions about human beings, their mortality, their mortality, their struggle for survival and the question of (m)society’s possibility.” With his visual thinking, Castellucci, who is from the fine arts, “has revolutionized theater and opera, opening up new spaces of experience, new dimensions and worlds for all of us we didn’t know about,” says the city councilwoman, who also credits her personal friendship and working relationships.
