Vuelta series winner Primoz Roglic narrowed the gap to overall leader Remco Evenepoel in the Spanish Grand Prix. The professional Slovenian Jumbo-Visma rider distanced himself from his rival on the final climb of the 160.3 km stage 14 to Sierra de la Bandera, trailing the Belgian by just 1:49.
Olympic champion Richard Carapaz won the stage, eight seconds ahead of Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) and Roglic. It was the 29-year-old Ecuadorean’s second-day victory at the Vuelta a 77, and he had already triumphed on Thursday.
Bora-hansgrohe’s Jonas Koch crossed the finish line as the best German. The 29-year-old from Schwäbisch Hall came in 93rd. The German players are still waiting for a first stage victory in this year’s Tour of Spain.
