Markus Eisenbichler won qualification for the New Year’s competition at the Seventy Four Hills Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Eisenbechler descended on New Year’s Eve at 137.0 metres, and like World Cup leader Karl Geiger (135,5 metres) in third, he can look forward to his first major sporting event in 2022 with a good feeling.
A total of nine DSV Eagles will participate in the 100th New Year’s Contest in History. Stephan Leahy (Wilingen) was ninth, and former world champion Severin Freund (Rustbuchel) confirmed his good form in 17th. Konstantin Schmid (Oberdorf) in 20th place and Pius Paschke (Kieversfelden) in 29th place made it easy to qualify.
Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger (Roebolding) is back. Initially in Oberstdorf, the 26-year-old had just missed the 51st place qualification, but this time it was only 47th.
