Manchester United for sale. Two billionaires have already played traditional English club poker. And Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar is now offering the owners of the “Red Devils” another reward in addition to five billion pounds.
As the British daily The Sun writes, the billionaire Sheikh is said to have offered the Glazer family, the current owners of Manchester United, a special treat for the sale of the English Premier League club: NFL matches in the Middle East!
This deal may not be unattractive to United owner Avram Glazer. Because he also owns stock in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Tom Brady has played a huge role lately. Already in the past, the popularity of NFL games in Europe has increased with games in London or Munich. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani now believes the move could give him the upper hand in the race to sell United.
A source revealed, “Sheikh Yasim has made it clear that he wants to buy the club and that he has the money to do so. He is a fan of the Glazers and would like to work with them in the future.” Part of the plan was that the Glazers could bring the Buccaneers to Qatar to host the NFL Summit at the National Stadium in Doha. The NFL aims to increase Qatar’s reputation as a venue for sporting events.
The NFL has already committed to bringing American football to other parts of the world to take advantage of its global fan base. In January, the NFL announced that the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots would play games in England and Germany. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may soon follow in Qatar.
