USA and Jamaica booked their place in the quarter finals of the Gold Cup with huge wins.
The Americans beat Trinidad and Tobago 6-0 in their third Group A match in Charlotte on Sunday, while the Jamaicans beat St. Kitts and Nevis 5-0 in Santa Clara. Both teams finished the first leg of the tournament with seven points. In Group B, Qatar beat Mexico 1-0 to finish second.
Jesus Ferreira was outstanding with a flawless hat-trick (14th, 38th, 45th + 3) for the American outfit. The 22-year-old FC Dallas center-forward scored a hat trick in his second consecutive international match to earn a spot in the history books that no American player has ever done before. After 21 appearances in team clothes, he has already scored 14 goals – the third time he has scored three or more goals in a game.
The rest of the goals went to Kate Cowell (66′), Gianluca Puccio (79′) and Brandon Vasquez (95′). Hasem Shehata (27′) scored Qatar’s only goal. Qatar finished second on points ahead of Honduras, while Haiti fell a point behind with a 2-1 loss to Honduras.
