Manufacturer of binoculars, telescopes and rifle scopes, Swarovski Optik, based in Absam (Innsbruck Land region), is launching what it says are the first binoculars powered by artificial intelligence (AI). However, you have to invest 4,600 euros, which is several times more than a traditional endoscope.
Tyrol's smart binoculars help identify more than 9,000 birds and other creatures, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. “AX Visio” was launched in Las Vegas at the CES technology trade show and will be on sale starting February 1.
Observed animals can be identified with the push of a button, and the built-in camera takes photos and videos. They can then be managed and shared via the app. Swarovski Optik invested about five years in product development and design. The speculum, designed by Marc Newson, consists of 390 components and a “product life cycle of many years” is promised.
Founded in 1949, Swarovski Optik specializes in the development and manufacture of “highest precision” long-range optical devices. According to the company, sales in 2022 amounted to 216.4 million euros (2021: 210.4 million euros) with an export share of 91 percent. It employs about 1,100 people worldwide.
