The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro are expected to debut in China this month, and this has now been confirmed with a first teaser on Xiaomi’s official Weibo profile. The poster below was posted there, which once again highlights the prominent name Leica, after OnePlus and Oppo made history today with Hasselblad’s first foldable camera.
For the first time, a Xiaomi smartphone will feature a Summilux-class portable Leica lens, meaning the large F/1.4 aperture is practically constant. For comparison: with the Xiaomi 13 Pro (available here on Amazon) you had to be content with a smaller F/1.9 aperture; At that time and with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the Leica Summicron lens was announced accordingly. According to previous leaks, Xiaomi is reducing the size of the main sensor in the 1-inch Sony IMX989 Xiaomi 14 Pro phone to a slightly smaller sensor of 1/1.28 inches, but it allows more light through the lens, which Xiaomi has now also confirmed.
The early teaser also means it will launch in October, shortly after Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is scheduled to launch next week on October 24. It’s not officially known yet whether Chinese Xiaomi fans will be able to pre-order the Xiaomi 14 on October 27, as a leaker recently claimed, or just on October 31, but at least the month has now been confirmed. Xiaomi’s 14th generation is launching earlier than ever, and Samsung is also putting the pedal to the metal with the Galaxy S24, which will also likely be available a couple of weeks earlier this year.
