“The Foolish Canary of the Kugelroesy Family” – about the early history of the first Vienna Football Club in 1894

A few months before her 130th birthday, Vienna's family is waiting for a special event. Vienna historian D. Aleksander Juraski will give a lecture on the origins of the first football club in Austria on May 16 at 7pm at the History Club 1894 in Hohe Wart.

On August 22, 2024, Vienna 1st Football Club 1894 will celebrate its 130th anniversary. This wonderful anniversary invites us to take a fascinating look at the beginnings of Austria's first and oldest football club. At a time when the “English foot lounging” was not yet everywhere popular and young men sometimes stuck to their beards in order to pursue the round leather disguise, the history of Vienna began.

From the beginning to the arena

Our club historian Dr. Aleksander Juraski takes the approaching birthday of Austrian football's “first-born” as an opportunity to cover an exciting arc in his lecture “The Foolish Canary of Kuglierwicz” from its humble Viennese beginnings to the club's various venues and finally to the building of the club. The legendary Hohe Warte Stadium – known today as Naturarena Hohe Warte.

Pioneers of Austrian football

Who are the brave pioneers who laid the foundation for this traditional club? What is the secret of the club colors and the bouncing ball in the club logo? These and many other questions will be examined on this special evening.
